User Research
Goal• Research Plan • Interview • Survey • Affinity Diagram • User Persona
Goal
Identify what parts of online learning have been problematic for users in the past and what parts have been beneficial and effective
UX RESEARCH PLAN:
INTERVIEW PLAN
Method:
We interviewed 9 people about their experiences and feelings towards online learning. We conducted 1:1 interviews via zoom.
Research Objectives:
Objective 1: Understand the end-to-end process of how people use online platforms to learn virtually
Objective 2: To understand what pain points families face when learning in a virtual or remote setting
Objective 3: Learn what the ideal process could look like for virtual learners
Participants:
People who have learned at least one thing online (online class, youtube, masterclass)
SURVEY PLAN
Method:
We sent out anonymous survey to around 27 people who are frequent online learners.

User Insights • Problem Statement • I like, I wish, What if • User Journey
After the Ideation phase, begins the UX Storytelling phase where we use different techniques to understand the user’s pain points, scenario, User Journey etc.
USER INSIGHT STATEMENT
“Users need a hands-free learning experience because they want to make online learning more efficient and enjoyable.”
PROBLEM STATEMENT
HOW MIGHT WE create an engaging and hands-free learning experience that enhances user’s online learning experience?
I like, I wish, What if
USER SCENARIO
Emily is hosting a fundraising event and wants to sell cupcakes and muffins to the community. She wants to learn a more efficient way to bake more for the community. She tried baking through YouTube videos, but it did not turn out the way it was supposed to because her friends did not give good feedback on it.
She wants to improve her baking skills by receiving live feedback. Since she is selling to a larger customer base she is hoping to be more responsible in her learning approach. That’s when Lumos came into picture.
USER JOURNEY
Ideate
Competitor Analysis • User Flow • User Scenario • Sketches • Digital Wireframes
COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
We thoroughly evaluated existing travel apps to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement, informing our design strategy.
USER FLOW
By mapping out the user journey from start to finish, we pinpointed key touchpoints and interactions, ensuring a seamless experience for our users.
SKETCHES:
We produced rough sketches to visualize initial design concepts and iterated on ideas to ensure the best possible solutions for our users.
Digital Wireframes
Design
Lo-fi Prototype • User Testing• Revisions • Mock-ups • Hi-fi Prototype
Developing low-fidelity prototypes allowed us to test basic functionalities early on, gathering valuable feedback to refine our design approach.
LO-FI PROTOTYPE:
USER TESTING
We conducted 8 usability tests with our low-fidelity prototype with a goal of assessing if users can connect the devices and join a class.
FEEDBACK:
User needs more prompting.
Users had tough time navigating the Connecting Device Page.
View schedule button needs more visibility.
Revisions
Iteration #1:
we added more prompting to the add device screen and separated the devices into separate screens
Iteration #2:
We made the view schedule button more visible to users

REFLECTIONS
How AI can help with handsfree interactions?
How can we use this in outdoor settings?
To figure out how teachers can facilitate the interactive environment using this projector.
